Presidents Report

Dear Pan Towner’s,
Thanks to everyone who attended our last General Meeting on August 12th. We did manage to conduct an abbreviated meeting under very trying circumstances, but in the end Mother Nature won out. In fact, the storm did some damage in the greater St. Cloud area. What a Car Show! What a good Fun Run! For the Fun Run, we ended up with around 80 cars--again, despite the rain. We did have one breakdown, but, bringing up the rear, Cadillac Jack and I drove the person to his son's home where he could get further help.

But for the Car Show we had marvelous weather and a great turn-out. The final numbers are not in yet, but it appears that over 4,000 people came through the main gate. The Board gave Jim Zwilling a round of applause for his outstanding work as Car Show Chair. Jim thanked the Board, but he also made clear that it was all the workers who made the event a success. He also pointed out that these dedicated folks know their job, and they are good at it! I hope I can do half as good as Jim next year.

At the General Meeting, we did pass out monies to those members (by luck of the draw) who attended either/or a parade or nursing home exhibit for 2009. Next year, this will be handled (likely) at the Spring Banquet for the year 2010. I'm not sure everyone could hear this at the meeting.

One thing we were not able to get to at the last General Meeting was the position of Vice President. Shawn Nelson did resign (August 4th) due to new job responsibilities. It is rare for the PanTowners to lose a Director or Officer mid-term. In fact, this has occurred only one other time (1997). The by-laws address the issue, but only in a general way, and, while the Board has some authority in the matter, it is my personal belief that it is in the best interest of our entire organization to have input and guidance from the Membership. And, at the last Board meeting, this concept was upheld.

Accordingly, the Board appointed Ms. Nancy Zupan to serve as Vice President to fill the vacancy until year-end elections. The Board requests a point of privilege from the Membership to determine (by vote) whether Nancy should succeed to the position of President in 2011, or should the Fall election elect both a Vice President and President for 2011. We expect a full discussion of the matter at the next General Meeting at Les & Fran's on September 9th. The Board is sorry to lose Shawn. He has done a lot for the Club. We hope to see him back whenever job responsibilities permit.

Remember to bring a dish to pass at the next General Meeting. And, next month, find the sign-up sheet for the Club's Birthday Party on Saturday November 13th at Mi Famiglia Ristorante across from the Paramount Theartre on West St. Germain.

On behalf of the Board, we hope you all have a wonderful and safe Labor Day Holiday.

Richard K. Brown

Carshow Chairman's Report

Hello Fellow Pantowner's,

I want to thank all the chairpersons, members and volunteers for a Great Job. We had an Awesome car show and the good Lord blessed us with a very nice day.

With the ice arena cars we had close to 700 show cars.

I realized from being the car show chairman this year what an effort our members put forward to put on such a Great Show.

Please get your bills in as soon as possible so we can wrap up everything for the show. The wrap up meeting is scheduled for September 21 at 7:30 pm at The Moose Lodge. Please bring all your comments and ideas to make next year's show even better. All chairpersons should attend and all members are welcome. If you can't make the meeting please call me with your suggestions and I'll pass them along.

Please get your worker lists in as soon as possible. I will not be at the general meeting in September as we are going on vacation to Niagra Falls.

Again I do want to thank all of you for your support as car show chairman, it has been an honor working with such a fine group.

Please Take Care and Drive Safely Everyone.
Jim Zwilling Car Show Chairman

Car of the Month

1968 Ford
Mustang Convertible
Owners: Gene & Bev Bownik

A few years ago, when we were vacationing in Phoenix, AZ, we attended the Barrett Jackson auction in Scottsdale. One of the cars that was sold in the auction was a beautiful blue Shelby Mustang GT500 KR convertible. After seeing that car, we fell in love with it and wanted one.

Since the 40th anniversary of the 1968 Shelby Mustang would be coming up soon, we decided to build a Tribute car.

The process began with a 1968 Mustang convertible that we found in Shakopee, MN, one without a motor or wheels. The restoration work began in the Twin Cities area and then finished locally. Bev had heard of good work done by Dohrmann Custom Automotive in Sauk Rapids. So, we contacted Barry Dohrmann and he was able to gradually work us into his schedule.

The project was a long one, taking about 2 ˝ years to complete. The car has everything it should, including a rebuilt 1968 Cobra Jet motor. It also has an automatic C6 transmission and 9+ Currie rear end with a 3.50 gear ratio. The color is the original candy apple red with black top and black interior.

Thank you for voting for our car. It’s a great honor to have it in the Siftings and the calendar.

Pantowners,
Well another car show bites the dust. Show and swap 2010 is history. We had a good turnout of cars and trucks considering the nice weather and averaging the number of cars over the last few years but that's ok because it makes getting them in and parked much easier. It was a steady stream pretty much all day so there was never huge line-ups waiting and people getting owly because they're overheating. I think the worse was a '56 Pontiac that the brakes locked up on the road in but eventually he got it moving.

We registered 610 cars thru the gate on Sunday. Of those 255 (293 with club cars) were pre-registered. We had 65 cars in the ice arena Including 11 calender cars and 4 Pan cars. Pre-war car turn out again was excellent to help our show stand out according to Jim Stodolka. The 1933 MG was a very interesting car. The Model "A" club showed up and 4 classic cars. I'm sure the fabulous weather Jim Z. and Mona prayed for (and got) helped with the great turn out of cars and trucks. Along with that, we had 3 pedal cars/toys and 67 models according to Pete V. The show had 22 motorcycles of different makes and years in their show area reported by Bryan and Heidi.

Again this year help was adequate but it would be nice to have more so people can take a break but it wasn't to be. Maybe you should consider helping register or classing cars next year. Help is always welcome and we have lots of fun. Plus you get to see all the cars for FREE. Thanks to approximately the 20 people that helped - most of the day for many workers.
